Superior 19th Century English Faux Bamboo and Birdseye Maple Breakfront Bookcase

A rare and magnificent piece this faux bamboo and bird’s-eye maple breakfront features an upper section with glazed doors opening up to shelved interiors and a lower section with drawers. The details are quite striking from the design of the mullions to the diagonal bamboo adornments on the drawers. Towards the end of the 19th century everything Chinese became the fancy of the day in both France and England. This is a great example of distinct British chinoiserie bamboo style.
