Late 18th Century, 28.5 x 38.5 in. 34.5 x 44.5 in. including frame, oil on relined canvas.

By the end of the 17th century it became fashionable for ladies to adopt the style of masculine coats and waistcoats for riding and hunting oftentimes adorned with uniform like trims as in this great aristocratic portrait with its references to the sitter as Diana the goddess of the hunt.
