Rare English 18th Century Tortoise Shell and Silver Covered Book of Common Prayer

This pocket size prayer book dates to 1774 where it was published by C. Eyre and W. Strahan. At a certain time, likely in the mid-19th century, it has been mounted in a tortoise shell cover with silver (unmarked) closure, hinges and corners and the previous cover titled ‘LADY SMITH’ incerted front and back. Several inscribed names on the opening pages could refer to the Smith-Marriott family and the Baronetcy of Sydling St Nicholas in the County of Dorset. The front of the tortoise shell cover is mounted with oval silver plaque engraved with a coat of arms.
