This wonderful painting has originally been part of an architectural panel allegedly in the Palazzo Medici Riccardi where large collections of Andrea del Sarto are held. The refined features of Maria and the ‘cesarean’ gesture of the infant Jesus point to an authenticity in the midst of centuries of modifications.
