French Second Empire Eagle Wing Carved and Bronze Mounted Mahogany Armchair

This elegant carved mahogany armchair resting on small casters dates to circa 1870 a time when Napoleon III was Emperor of the French. He adopted many of the stylistic elements first seen during his uncle’s Napoleon I reign. The chair features beautiful recent beige velvet upholstery of seat and back in a neoclassical carved and bronze-mounted mahogany frame surmounted by two bronze laurel wreaths, the main feature being the armrests carved with wings of the imperial eagle.
