Jean Calogero was born in Catania, Sicily. He had his first exhibitions in 1945 in Sicily and Rome was well received. In 1947 he studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. He is best known for his Surrealist and genre works. He exhibited at the Gallery Hervé in 1951 and the following years in New York, L.A. and San Francisco, Paris and Tokio. Maximilian Gauthier devoted a book to him published by ‘The Gemini.’ In 1957 Calogero was awarded the Grand Silver Medal by the City of Paris. Substantial international auction prices are recorded for this artist.
